Savannah uses the phrase,“Bored people make friends with boring people'' to begin her portrait series about her sister. The black and white filter used on each of the photos adds an additional layer of meaning behind age in her art. Savannah's 10 year old sister looks up to her in a way that I can relate to. I am the oldest of five siblings and looking at how genuine the smile of Savannah's sister is in each of the photos shows how much love and respect Savannah's sister has for her. I loved how Savannah uses the photos to tell a story about dreaming big and pursuing one's dreams. The fact that Carrigan was able to," see no loss" in the coronavirus lockdown and having to move to rural Arkansas shows how resilient and optimistic she views the world. This portrait series did an excellent job at looking into the mind of the youth and showing how resilient one has to be to get through hard times. There is always room for growth in life and Savannah perfectly uses the angles and depth in her shots to give a personal perspective into the life of her sister. The best shot in the series would have to be the one where her sister is sitting on the side of a lake in a boat while the water behind her ebs its way towards the shore. The high angle shot in this case allows the viewer to feel in the moment and experience the still frame like it is a slice of life. The hat used in the other four photos adds character and a personality to the already joyful and charismatic Carrigan. Savannah you did a wonderful job and I hope that your sister never loses that spark for adventure and wonder.
