I chose to analyze John Carpenter's "They Live" poster from 1988 because it is one of my favorite movies and the poster speaks not only to the film, but also provides a deeper insight into the current culture of conformity that the 21st century brings to life. The film itself is a Sifi thriller that follows the story of George Nada, a traveling construction worker, who finds a pair of glasses that lets him see the aliens that have infiltrated themselves into the human world. The poster makes this aspect of the film very evident by having the alien in the glass as George lowers them to get a better look. The quote in the top left of the poster also uses quotes from the film to get the audience excited for the fights and discussions that will take place in the movie. The trees and low-rise buildings behind the alien also tell the viewer that the movie takes place in LA. Back I. the late 80's and today there are still a majority of action movies that take place in LA. Someone looking at this poster would see the aliens and the city and know the film was an action-packed thriller.
